SMETS is an acronym for Smart Metering Equipment Technical Specification.

The first generation of smart meters are known as SMETS 1. The second generation of smart meters, introduced in 2018, are known as SMETS 2.

A SMETS2 meter enables customers to switch to different suppliers without losing the smart functionality. It also sends energy consumption data directly to the supplier, eliminating the need to send monthly reads or arrange visits with a data collector.

Is my meter SMETS 1 or SMETS 2?

If you have a SMETS 1 meter, you will see a keypad on the meter.

If you SMETS 2 meter, you may have A and B buttons instead.
