MPAN and MPRN

Understanding Meter Point Numbers

In the UK, the MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) for electricity and MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) for gas are essential identifiers for supply points. Here’s what you need to know:

MPAN (Electricity)

  • What is it? A 13-digit code used to manage electricity usage and billing.
  • Where to find? Check your electricity bill’s “Supply Number” section or contact your supplier.
  • Example: 20 0001 5001 165

MPRN (Gas)

  • What is it? A unique reference number for gas meters, separate from customer account numbers.
  • How to find? Look on your gas bill, visit the Find My Supplier website or call the meter number helpline on 0870 608 1524.

Using MPAN/MPRN

  • When needed: Essential for switching energy suppliers or when moving properties.
  • During supplier switch: MPAN/MPRN usually remain the same when switching suppliers without moving. Inform your new supplier.

Understanding these numbers is crucial for managing your electricity and gas supply effectively. They facilitate communication with suppliers and regulatory bodies, making it easier to handle meter readings, supplier changes, and supply-related issues.
